Rifugio Auronzo
Rifugio Auronzo
Tre Cime di Lavaredo are considered the iconic symbol of the Dolomites, declared Unesco World Heritage Site in 2009. On our hiking route we have the chance to take a closer look at these beautiful mountains, understanding their natural, geological and geomorphological value, and also learn about the history that made these peaks sadly famous for being a battlefield during the First World War. Hiking along the foothills of Tre Cime di Lavaredo is a fascinating journey through spectacular landscapes, shapes, colours and rock formations which represent the whole Dolomite mountain range, discovering the fascinating million years old coral, barrier reefs and tropical islands that were scattered around our beautiful region.
Our hiking circuit starts at Rifugio Auronzo, 2330 metres, reachable from Misurina driving along a panoramic private toll road. At the beginning we follow a panoramic, gentle, military wide gravel track until Forcella Lavaredo, our first panoramic mountain saddle, from where we enjoy the first glimpse of the famous northern rock faces of Tre Cime di Lavaredo. From Forcella Lavaredo we continue downhill and uphill on military tracks to Rifugio Locatelli, 2450 metres, and finally we follow narrower panoramic mountain paths, with various ups and downs all the way back to Rifugio Auronzo, completing the loop around these extraordinary iconic peaks.
