ITINERARY

Day 1Auronzo di Cadore – Rifugio Ciareido

Our trekking route starts from Val da Rin, an enchanting forested valley in Auronzo di Cadore. We follow a forest path climbing steeply in sections towards Mt Agudo, admiring the rich woods of the Ansiei Valley, and then continue on a gentler narrower path past WWI military positions to reach the verdant high mountain pastures of Pian dei Buoi, reaching soon Rifugio Ciareido, our first overnight stay. 950 m + 150 m – / 5-6 hrs / lunch at Rifugio Monte Agudo

Day 2Rifugio Ciareido – Rifugio Chiggiato

Our second hiking day brings us to Rifugio Chiggiato, hiking along the foothills of the Marmarole mountains, following a mountain path in and out of the woods, across some rocky and stony sections, with spectacular views of the Dolomites. There are a couple of rocky exposed sections, with metal iron cables mainly there to reassure. 200 m + 250 m – / 4-4.5 hrs / packed lunch

Day 3Rifugio Chiggiato – Rifugio San Marco

Our third hiking day starts following a narrow forest path descending gradually through woods to the Val d’Oten, and continues along a gravel wide track to Capanna degli Alpini, with the possibility to take a small detour to enjoy some pretty waterfalls. After lunch we start climbing on a mountain path to Rifugio Galassi and Forcella Piccola, a panoramic mountain saddle at the foothills of Mt Antelao, the king of the Dolomites. The path finally brings us across scree slopes to the enchanting and pretty Rifugio San marco where we spend the night. 1000 m + 1100 m – / 6-7 hrs / lunch at Rifugio Capanna degli Alpini

Day 4Rifugio San Marco – Foresta di Somadida

Our last hiking day brings us steeply uphill to Forcella Grande 2255 metres, a pretty panoramic mountain saddle, the highest point on our hiking route. From here we start descending along the San Vito valley to Palus San Marco, past mountain streams and waterfalls, with extensive views onto the Cadini di Misurina peaks and surrounding mountains, and through the enchanting woods of the Nature Park of Somadida, a protected area with a unique flora and fauna. From Palus San Marco we continue riding a MTB along the cycling path of Tre Cime Di Lavaredo to Auronzo di Cadore. 400 m + 1100 m – / 4.5-5.5 hrs / packed lunch
